Sunday, August 11, 2013: Philadelphia, PA
In tradition with being a City of Firsts, Philadelphia, PA, home to one of the oldest and currently the fourth largest police departments in the United States, formally recognized August 11-17, 2013 as the inaugural national Forensic Science Week by official mayoral proclamation. Mayor Michael Nutter, in establishing the first official Forensic Science Week in Philadelphia, recognized the many contributions of forensic scientists in the City of Philadelphia and throughout the country.
The Philadelphia Police Department’s Office of Forensic Science is hosting several events throughout to celebrate Forensic Science Week. Through community outreach events with local students and tours of the Forensic Science Center for legislators and criminal justice professionals to a Family Day for OFS employees, the Philadelphia Police Department wants to recognize the important role that forensic science plays in modern criminal justice and the dedicated professionals that honorably serve the citizens of Philadelphia.
